Photographers With Flash Sites

photoflashsite.jpg I revel in finding others who GET IT! Yes, Flash websites are super pretty. And they have some awesome functions and abilities. But, hey! Google ignores your site (or at best gives it a low priority). Guess no one will be finding you unless they already know you personally.

Check out Kim Larson’s post about how she improved her website’s traffic and boosted her business. How I Changed My Web Site to Grow My Photography Business.

By the way – this is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) at its most basic. If you need help improving your site’s search engine penetration and rankings give me call!

Introducing Rock Iowa

rockiowatv.gif I had the pleasure to meet the Rock Iowa folks last night at their Market Street Media Foundry location. For those who do not know, Rock Iowa is an up-and-coming cultural and musical media network of news, reviews, artist profiles, videos, and photos from events here in Iowa. They currently have two sites – the main RockIowa.com and RockIowa.tv where a variety of very interesting videos are posted.

This team of unique individuals has some huge goals and plans for the future of both Rock Iowa and for the arts in Iowa. A new website design is forthcoming with a new look and and all-new structure.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get to know these guys and gals better in the future. I have also offered my web design and marketing knowledge to help them grow. So, go on over to their site and check out Rock Iowa!

Zombies Ahead!

This is priceless. Someone (or something?) hacked into one of those digital road signs in Austin, Texas on January 19. They changed the sign to read “ZOMBIES AHEAD.” I don’t know about you, but I would have gotten off at the next exit and turned around. Zombies are scary!

200px-world_war_z_book_cover.jpg Speaking of Zombies, I highly recommend reading World War Z by Max Brooks. It is a detailed written history of World War Z (WWZ) and the global Zombie attack. I also suggest picking up a copy of Day by Day Armageddon, written by J.L. Bourne. Both are great reads.

Are We All Equal?

bryangruhlke_2.jpg America was founded on the ideal that the individual is free to make their own life. Our thoughts are our own. Yet today we are experiencing more and more the thought that people shouldn’t have responsibility over their own lives. Everywhere I look the government is helping (read: interfering) in citizens’ lives through financial assistance, special regulations, and unfair taxing.

The Constitution of this nation states we are all born equal; does that mean we remain equal? Does not the person who works hard and improves himself deserve more than the one who sits idly on the couch? We all deserve equal opportunities – what we do with those opportunities is what defines us. The man who works hard pays taxes (a lot of taxes if he is very successful). Those taxes are then used to pay for welfare services to support the lazy dolt sitting at home. Does this seem even remotely fair?

Yes, sometimes people need help. There are unforeseen circumstances and I feel it is acceptable for our nation to help people get back on their feet. Our current programs, however, do not accomplish this. They are designed to keep people dependent on government aide. Why get a job, work hard, and earn your living when you can stay home and receive a check?

The large our welfare programs grow the closer to abyss of self-destruction we get. Former countries who tried the “everyone is equal” path have failed (see Soviet Union). This type of governance will always lead to the death of innovation, the growth of corruption, and “special privileges” for the ruling elite. Socialism’s goal (not stated, and not understood by its supporters) is the murder of thought.

Each and every one of us is free to become the greatest our own abilities allow us. The most moral thing you can do is to care for your own being; do what you have always dreamed of, educate and grow, create great things! Be successful! Never let someone tell you it is your responsibility to protect the non-producers of this world.

Irvnet – New Buddy

Met an interesting character last night in, of all places, a bar. Irvin Robison is a computer repairer and tech guru in the Des Moines area. Looks like he is starting up a new business providing PC and laptop repair services to individuals and businesses in the Central Iowa region.

Irvin was a very thoughtful guy and also opinionated. It was great listening to his ideas and discussing our individual beliefs. Yes, I had a somewhat deep and meaningful conversation while drinking alcoholic beverages (or at least I think we did).

Irvin should have a website up soon (and I’ll post a link as soon as I find out where it will be). Until then, if you need computer assistance give him a call at (515) 720-7618 or email him at it.robison@raccoon.com.

Oh, and check out Jake’s in Ankeny, Iowa if you are in the mood for a nice, comfortable place to relax.

Read HTML Emails on Your BlackBerry

logo-rim-blackberry.jpgThis one is just too important for me to not post a link. As great of a tool the BlackBerry phones are, they have always had one large flaw (in my opinion). RIM never included an HTML email viewer. Shouldn’t be too surprised considering they finally came out with a spellchecker not too far back.

Anyway, if you want to view your emails correctly on your BlackBerry and you have upgraded to OS 4.5 (AT&T upgraded recently, Verizon did a while back), follow these instructions. Pretty easy and safe. If you have any questions shoot me a message.
